Janet Moore grew up on a small farm in rural Illinois where
she succeeded academically, graduating as Valedictorian of her high
school class and winning several prestigious awards, such as the Bausch
& Lomb Science Award. While attending Illinois
State University, she spent over three years working with the ISU
Planetarium, implementing slide shows, presenting sky lectures,
and developing workshops and curricula that aligned with state and national
learning standards. Upon graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in
Mathematics, Moore began teaching at Bureau
Valley High School. There, she successfully implemented the school's
first Advanced Placement program. She taught AP Calculus, Pre-Calculus,
and Algebra. In 2003, she accepted a position with the Challenger
Learning Center at Prairie
Aviation Museum as the Lead Flight Director. The position allows
Moore to actively engage thousands of students each year in mathematics,
science, and technology through space mission simulations. Moore is
especially committed to providing young girls opportunities to experience
mathematics and science in action and remains an active Workshop Leader
each year for Expanding
Your Horizons on the Illinois State University campus.
In her spare time, Moore enjoys running marathons, backyard
astronomy, and spending time with her husband, Pete.
